Description
Situated in a remote region of central Mexico, Cantera Negra harnesses the transformative power of volcanic rock to shape both the land and the distinctive taste of their tequilas. The brand’s commitment to excellence begins with the careful selection of the most mature Blue Weber Agave from the nutrient-rich soil, ensuring a superior taste. Aged to perfection, Cantera Negra’s tequilas rest in fire-charred ex-cognac and bourbon barrels, contributing to superior complexity and smoothness. Notably, all their tequilas are meticulously crafted without the use of additives.
More than 40 years ago, Don Alberto Becherano embarked on a tequila-making journey with his family as a hobby. Over a decade of dedication to perfecting his method led to popularity within the community. Today, the Becherano Family continues this legacy, producing tequila now known as Cantera Negra. The name, meaning “Black Quarry,” pays homage to the black volcanic rock in Jalisco’s agave fields, resulting in an award-winning tequila portfolio celebrated for its unique minerality and smoothness.
The tequila-making process at Cantera Negra reflects their understanding that patience yields superior products. Agaves are allowed to mature fully before hand-harvesting from the volcanic soil, followed by a meticulous process of cooking, shredding, fermentation, and distillation. The tequila then matures in ex-cognac and bourbon barrels for at least 18 months before being bottled as Cantera Negra Añejo, showcasing the brand’s commitment to authenticity by avoiding additives.
Cantera Negra Añejo boasts a remarkable taste profile with notes of cinnamon, toasted oak, and vanilla on both the nose and palate. Bottled in a 750 ml size with 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof), this tequila ages for no less than 18 months, exemplifying the brand’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
