We meticulously harvest the most mature Blue Weber Agave from this fertile terrain, prioritizing superior taste in our selection process. Aged to perfection, our tequilas rest in fire-charred ex-cognac and bourbon barrels, contributing to their superior complexity and smoothness. The entire crafting process is a testament to our commitment to purity, as we carefully avoid the use of additives.

Our tequila-making journey began over 40 years ago when Don Alberto Becherano, driven by passion, started this venture as a family hobby. Over a decade of dedicated refinement of his tequila-making method garnered popularity within the community. Today, the Becherano Family continues this legacy, producing tequila renowned as Cantera Negra.

The name “Cantera Negra,” meaning “Black Quarry,” pays homage to the black volcanic rock present in the agave fields of Jalisco, Mexico. This unique terroir results in an award-winning tequila portfolio celebrated for its distinctive minerality and smoothness.

Our patient approach to crafting a truly superior product involves allowing our agaves to reach full maturity before hand-harvesting from the nutrient-rich volcanic soil. The agaves undergo a meticulous process of cooking, shredding, fermentation, and distillation. Subsequently, our tequila matures for at least 36 months in ex-cognac and bourbon barrels before being bottled as Cantera Negra Extra Añejo. Our unwavering commitment to authenticity is evident as we never use additives throughout the tequila production.
