Description
In a remote region of central Mexico, where volcanic rock profoundly influences the land, Cantera Negra crafts tequilas with a distinct taste. Harvesting only the most mature Blue Weber Agave from this fertile soil, their aged tequilas undergo a restful period in fire-charred ex-cognac and bourbon barrels, resulting in superior complexity and smoothness. Emphasizing a commitment to purity, all Cantera Negra tequilas are carefully crafted without additives.
The tequila-making journey began over 40 years ago when Don Alberto Becherano started making tequila as a family hobby. After a decade of perfecting his method and gaining popularity within the community, the Becherano Family continues the legacy, now recognized as Cantera Negra. The name, meaning “Black Quarry,” is inspired by the black volcanic rock in the agave fields of Jalisco, Mexico, leading to an award-winning tequila portfolio celebrated for its unique minerality and smoothness.
Understanding that patience yields superior products, Cantera Negra allows their agaves to reach full maturity before hand-harvesting from the rich volcanic soil. The agave undergoes a meticulous process of cooking, shredding, fermentation, and distillation. Finally, the tequila matures in ex-cognac and bourbon barrels for at least 7 months, then bottled as Cantera Negra Reposado, exemplifying the brand’s commitment to authenticity without additives.
Cantera Negra Reposado, presented in a 750 ml bottle with 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof), is a refined tequila featuring notes of roasted agave, oak, vanilla, and a subtle hint of citrus. This expression reflects the brand’s dedication to crafting a superior product that captures the essence of the region and showcases the artistry of the tequila-making process.
