Description
Tomoe Gozen, renowned as the most formidable female samurai in Japanese history, possessed both striking beauty and a fearsome reputation. Legends recount her command of up to 1,000 soldiers during the 13th century, establishing her as a prominent military leader. Armed with a long curved blade known as a naginata and a shorter dagger called a kaiken, she became associated with the “comma” shape, resembling a swirl, found on Japanese family crests adorning her samurai shoulder pads. Additionally, “Gozen” denotes an ancient title bestowed upon esteemed women.
In honor of this indomitable female warrior, a specially crafted Japanese whisky originates from the Yamanashi Prefecture Distillery. Aged for 8 years in Mizunara oak barrels before undergoing further maturation in a single vat, this whisky is composed of 60% grain whisky and 40% malt. It boasts a warm golden hue and offers a palate rich in honey, fruit, vanilla, and oak notes. Its exotic profile includes flavors reminiscent of red apple, flan, coconut, marzipan, vanilla, and rum cake, culminating in a medium-length finish.
